Are You On-fire for God?

Are you on-fire for God?  Are you experiencing a continuous revival fire in your heart that never seems to burn low?  Perhaps you were saved several years ago, and you have a consistent walk with the Lord, living by faith.  As with the boiling frog, lukewarmness is not realized until you are already spiritually dead.  The fact is, lukewarm Christians are generally deficient in lukewarm awareness similar to overweight people lacking self-awareness.  What exactly does “being on fire for the Lord” look like?  One sure method of analyzing “evidence of ignition” is by describing what it is not.

Being on-fire for God is NOT:

  • Praise and worship void of a life of holiness
  • Worshiping worship
  • Lack of spiritual disciplines of prayer, studying the Word, and fasting
  • Watching worldly TV and/or social media
  • Playing video games
  • Listening/meditating to worldly music
  • Avoiding sharing your faith
  • Avoiding convicting preaching
  • Imbibing in alcoholic beverages
  • Avoiding fellowshipping with other saints
  • Using foul language
  • Smoking
  • Being filled with anger
  • Greed
  • Watching porn
  • Participating in sexual sins such as fornication, adultery, or homosexuality
  • Gambling
  • Gossiping
  • Wasting endless hours on Facebook and YouTube
  • Wearing provocative clothing
  • Seeing how close to sin you can get
  • etc

One thing all of these items have in common is that they require no spiritual discipline.  Walking in the flesh is easy, but it leads to death.

When we do the things above, we are abiding in spiritual death which is the opposite of being on-fire for God.

Rom 8:4-7 That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.

Rom 8:13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die:  but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

Col 3:1-5 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth. For ye are dead, and your life is hid with Christ in God. When Christ, who is our life, shall appear, then shall ye also appear with him in glory. Mortify therefore your members which are upon the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry:

Mortify in Romans 8 is “thanatoo” which means “to put to death; to kill.”

Mortify in Colossians 3 is “nekroo” which means “to subdue; to deaden.”

Whichever dog you feed the most will be the strongest

Friend: if you subdue and deaden the things the flesh wants to do, you will live and walk in the Spirit.  Conversely, if you support and cater to the things the flesh wants to do, you will subdue and deaden the Spirit.  It is really that simple.  I had a Pastor once preach often that whichever dog you feed the most will be the strongest.  How true that is.

Lukewarm at best

If you are participating and harboring items on the list above, you are lukewarm at best.  You walk in the flesh and are abiding in death as an enemy of God.  You are not subject to God’s law and cannot be.  Even if you prayed the sinner’s prayer, got baptized, filled with the Holy Ghost, pay tithes, heal the sick, preach the gospel:  you are an enemy of God.

Jas 4:4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Cry out to God

Cry out to God in humility, submitting yourself to Him.  Draw close to Him and he will draw close to you.  Cleanse your hands and purify your hearts.  “Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep; let your laughter be turned into mourning and your joy to heaviness.  Humble yourself in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up.”  James 4:6-10

I John 1:9 teaches us that if we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive our sins and to cleanse us from all sin.  Humble yourself.  Crucify your flesh.  Get on your knees and cry out to the Lord.  Go back to your first love and put away these distractions.  Now is not the time to be lukewarm.  Wake up and realize that your fire is barely an ember.  “Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness.”  Luke 11:35  When you repent from walking in the flesh, you will be on-fire for God.
