The Spirit of God was upon David and he defeated his enemies “as dust of the earth.” In II Samuel 22:42, his enemy “looked, and there was none to save; even unto the Lord, but he answered them not.” The God of the Bible did not answer their prayers. The fact is, He does not always answer prayers, especially the prayers of His enemies. There are times in a believer’s life where it seems God is not “coming through” as you would like in contradiction to your desires. This is another topic altogether; God does hear the effectual, fervent prayer of a righteous man (James 5:16). But his face is against those that do evil (I Peter 3:12). When you are an enemy of God; when you reject His law; if you regard iniquity in your heart, this is when heaven is silent.
If you are an enemy of God, do not expect for Him to answer your prayers.
II Samuel 22:42 gives us an instance where David was defeating his enemies and they looked unto the Lord but there was no answer. Who is an enemy of God? Per James 4:4, a friend of the world is an enemy of God. This pertains to being a friend of the world’s system and the world’s values; someone that loves the world and the things that are within the world. I John 2:15 teaches us that if we love the world, the love of the Father is not in us. Titus 2:12 instructs us that we should deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, living soberly, righteously, and godly right now. Make no mistake about it; God will not favorably respond to the worldly, a.k.a., His enemies.
If you foolishly reject the law of the Lord, your prayer is an abomination. Proverbs 28:9
In fact, Proverbs 15:29 says that the Lord is far from the wicked. You pretend that you love the Lord by going to church and participating in worship. Friend, raising your filthy hands and pretending to give the Lord your heart is detestable to Him. The true test of whether you are sincerely following Him is when you obey Him when nobody is watching. When you could rebel against the clear teaching of scripture because you are not at church or around church elders, and you choose not to. That is the pure and translucent heart the Lord desires. This is where the Lord will whisper his secrets to you. But rejecting His Word will yield fruit of rejected prayer and intimacy with Him.
If you regard iniquity in your heart, the Lord will not hear you. Psalm 66:18
Your sins have separated you from God (Isaiah 59:1-2). Do not be deceived; God is not a fool. He knows those that are His. If you are walking in unrighteousness and yet say you are in fellowship with him, you are liar and walk in darkness (I John 1:6).
There is Hope, However!
I John 1:7 teaches us that if walk in the light, we have fellowship with Him and His blood will cleanse us from all sin. And, per vs 9, if we confess our sins, he is “faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Turn to Him today – repent and turn from your wickedness. Then He will hear us from heaven!
II Chr 7:14 14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.3
